María Chivite Navascués

María Chivite was born in Cintruénigo in 1978. She has a daughter and a son with her partner.

She holds a degree in Sociology from the Public University of Navarra (2001) and a master’s degree in HR Management from Foro Europeo, Navarra Business School (2002).

Ms Chivite got her first job with the basic services of the municipality of Cadreita, as assistant in labour and employment affairs. Then she joined the temporary employment agency Manpower as a consultant. As a member of the Sociology Office at the General Workers’ Union (UGT) in Navarra, she was part of several European projects in the field of labour and employment. The most important was the ADAPNA initiative, with Finland and Italy as partners.

She joined the Socialist Youth in 1998. She first held office as councillor for the Town of Cintruénigo in 2003. From 2007 to 2011, she was a member of the Parliament of Navarra and the spokesperson for the Health Committee. In 2011, she took office as senator, where she was the spokesperson for Health first and then, from September 2014 on, for the Socialist Party in the Senate. In 2014, she was awarded the prize for ‘Senadora Revelación’ (Newcomer to Senate).

In 2015, Ms Chivite returned to the Parliament of Navarra as leader of the PSN-PSOE group for the 2015-2019 term. She became leader of the Socialist Party in opposition. She was the recipient of the Parliamentary Press Award, in recognition of her good relationship with the media. She also got the Sanitaria Award for Best Politician from Sanitaria Publishing Group in 2000.

In August 2019, she was sworn in as President of Navarra.
